Paris and Three Cities of the Netherlands

Notre Dame and St. Severin

Our Museum Pass had expired after 4 days of heavy use, so we decided to proceed at a slower pace today. We had a leisurely breakfast of quiche, baguette and pan du chocolat before we headed out. Our first stop was Notre Dame and we decided to walk around the church for external photos, since the forecast was for rain. So we walked all the way around the church.

After walking around the church we went in to see this great cathedral.

A few minutes after we left Notre Dame it started to rain. We first stopped at a flower market and then walked to the St Severin Church, and were surprised to hear the organ, as the organist was practicing. It was beautiful music in a dark church on a rainy day.

Saint-Severin is one of the oldest churches in Paris. Its origin goes back to the 11th century, although much of the beautiful Gothic architecture we see today is the result of construction in the 15th century. The church is known for its stained-glass windows: a mixture of original Gothic windows, 19th century and modern 20th century windows. At the front of the church are 7 modern windows representing the 7 sacraments of the Catholic Church.

Tomorrow we take the train to The Hague.
