We took the train from Paris to The Hague and had a a rather uneventful day there. The next day, after breakfast in the hotel dining room, Don went for a walk around the area for some photos. We were near to the Binnenhof Parliament Complex, which is the seat of Dutch political power.
One of the main purposes of our stop in The Hague was to see more of the works of the artists of the Hague School. Don had made arrangements at the Gemeentemusuen (Municipal Museums) to study some of their drawings in the study room. They brought out 8 portfolios of drawings, each was about 18"x24" and had 20-25 prints or drawings. Don also was able to see a number of sketchbooks the artists used.
Many of the best known works of the Hague School were on exhibit elsewhere, but there were some excellent examples left in the musueum.
For more Hague School paintings and drawings (1531 to be exact)at the Gemeetemuseum, check their website at http://www.gemeentemuseum.nl/en/masterpieces/themes/the-hague-school#collection-items .
Tomorrow we see more of The Hague and the Mesdag Museum.
