From Big Sur we drove south towards Morro Bay.
As we were packing the next morning to leave, we spotted four deer in the area. Two stood quietly under the trees for this picture.
Our first stop was at Pfeiffer Beach. The entrance itself was impressive, with these trees guarding the path.
This is the beach where Richard Burton and Liz Taylor shot their beach scenes for the movie The Sandpiper.
The waves had carved a hole in this rock.
From the highway, it was a short hike to McWay Falls, which at 80 feet, is said to be the tallest waterfall in California which drops directly into Pacific Ocean.
Looking in the other direction, we got a nice view of the coast.
We hiked a short trail to get a different view of the coast.
At one viewpoint we got two excellent views of a cove.
Much of the time the fog was such that we could see little from the viewpoints.
At other times it was clear.
One last spectacular sight was the colony of elephant seals at Point Piedras Blancas. These are all male elephant seals since the females and pups have left.
Some of the males were still fighting one another.
When we arrived at Morro Bay, the fog was beginning to settle in. We got an early start the next morning for the drive back to San Diego.
