Bodily Resurrection
The Essenes believed in immortality of the soul but rejected the doctrine of bodily resurrection. The body is material, and if matter is evil, then salvation comes by escaping the body, and a bodily resurrection would be undesirable.
Christians believe in a resurrection, as did Paul in Acts 23:6, “...I stand on trial because of my hope in the resurrection of the dead.”
Notes:
Book of Jubilees: “Their bones will rest in the earth and their spirits will be very happy. They will know that the Lord is the one who executes judgment but shows kindness to hundreds and thousands and to all who love him.”
