Bayeaux

We started our visit in Bayeaux with a group lunch at Le Petit Normand and on our way we saw a bit of the city.

We first saw a movie on the Bayeaux tapestry and then went to see it. Although this is not really a tapestry, but an embroidery that is roughly 20 inches tall and 230 feet long. It tells the story of the events leading up to and including the Battle of Hastings on October 14, 1066. The following is just one section of the tapestry and shows Harold in the center plucking an arrow from his eye.

Should you wish to see more, pictures of the entire tapestry can be seen at this website, as well as other sites. To see each of these sections with a short description of each, go to http://www.bayeuxtapestry.org.uk/Bayeux1.htm

After we saw the tapestry, we had about half an hour to see the large cathedral at Bayeaux. Following are views of the front and back as well as two shots of the stained glass.
