Last Full Day in Zurich

After a hearty breakfast we walked  to the Zurichsee for a cruise,  We got there about 5 minutes before they began loading for the one and a half hour cruise.  We enjoyed it, but thought it wasn't as interesting as the cruises on the Interlaken lakes.

After an hour or so we could again see the city of Zurich.

Today was the day for the big market near the docks.  They had beautiful produce, meat, cheeses, but we especially enjoyed the flowers.

This was edelweiss.

.
From the market we took a leisurely walk down the main street for the high-end stores to the Landesmuseum.  This museum features Swiss history and culture and is housed in a building built in 1898, but inspired by the French chateaus.

Lace and clothing were displayed.

Living quarters of many different period were displayed.

Close to the museum was the dock for the 1 hour cruises of the Limmat River right in the city of Zurich. From the ship we could see the buildings on the river banks.

Above we could see the Grossmunster and below the Fraumunster.  On this side of the building are the Chagall stained glass windows.

After this cruise we walked to the Lindenhof Hill for panoramic views of the city. In the past this hill was the site of a Roman custom station.

The boat here is one of the river boats we had been on a short tie before.

After this we walked back to our hotel for some rest before dinner.  Walking after dinner we spotted a church we had not visited  before. the Prediger Kirche.

I will end this part of the trip with a photo from tripadvisor.com.  We saw this view a couple of times but in cloudier weather. On the left is the Fraumunster with the Chagall windows on this side, in the center is the guild house with the Meissen museum and on the right is St Peter's Church with the largest church tower clock in Europe, over 28 feet in diameter.

The next morning we went to the airport for our 8 hour flight to Boston, where we were greeted by our daughter, Kathy.  It was a great trip and now we are looking to a week-long celebration in Boston.
