Vernazza

Vernazza is one of five towns which make up what is called the Cinque Terre. Vernazza is a small town with about 500 residents and has a small colorful harbor.

A view of the city from above. We stayed in the red hotel in the upper left of the picture .

To get to the hotel we had quite a climb and the those of us on the third floor had to climb the staircase-more than 120 steps from the ground level to our room. But the views were spectacular and worth the effort.

The big activity for most tour members was hiking. The town of Vernazza is linked by trails to the other four towns- Monterossa to the north and Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore to the south. Some people hiked to all four, some to three, and some to one or two. The trains were easily available for the trip back to Vernazza.

On to Lucca, the American Cemetery, and Siena.
