After the morning market we rode the bus to a spot along the Dordogne River where we had a picnic of food purchased at the market by Patrick and Pamela.
While waiting for the picnic Patrick also introduced us to the game of pétanque, a form of one the oldest games of this sort, brought to northern Italy and southern France by the Romans.
We then were each issued life jackets and paddles.
We were given instructions such as "Do not stand up in the canoe!"
We were paired into canoes and ventured out on the Dordogne River. Here are Pamela and Frank just starting out.
It was a beautiful day for a canoe trip.
Our first stop was opposite the town of Cenac.
The next stop was at Castelnaud.
There we we fortunate to be able to get some refreshments and to see an auction of farm animals.
We were also able to get a better view of the castle above.
Further downstream we saw another castle.
After about 3 hours on the river we approached the town of Beynac, where we ended our canoe trip.
On y va to the caves at Pech Merle.
