Open Air Museum
This museum is set in 100 acres of parkland near
the city of Arnhem. About 100 authentic farmhouses, cottages, barns,
windmills, and workshops have been assembled here to illustrate rural architecture
and life in the past.
John AntonOne of the poorest homes was the peat sod hut . ![]() The following farmhouse dates from about 1770 and
the two rooms in the rear are used for animals.
![]() John Anton The following is a picture of a more elegant house. Note the roof which is both tiled and thatched.
![]() John Anton This interior shot shows the tiled fireplace and
a "cubby-hole" bed with doors to keep it warmer at night.

![]() This is the interior of that church with chairs
for the men and benches on the side for the women and children.
![]() John Anton This is the area of the papermill where the beating
of the cloth took place. It is powered by a water wheel.
The following is a reconstruction of a Zaan village. The
brickhouse in the center is a merchant's house from 1686.
![]() John Anton There were a number of windmills here as well, but
this one is different in that it powered a sawmill.
![]() They even had some old children's toys which some
of the adults enjoyed!
