Louvre

Our last group activity except for the final dinner was a tour of the Louvre, again led by Elisabeth. She first showed us Michaelangelo's "Two Slaves-The Dying Slave and the Reborn Slave."

We saw many of the masterpieces of the Louvre, including Lenoardo da Vinci's famous Mona Lisa.

The Winged Victory of Samothrace.

A Boticelli fresco of Venus with the seven liberal arts.

Ingres' La Grand Odalisque.

We also spent some time at "The Coronation of Napoleon" by Jaques-Louis David. In this painting, Napoleon had just made his wife empress. The pope was supposed to crown Napoleon but Napoleon took the crown from him and crowned himself.

We saw a number of artists there copying the masterpieces and this was one of the best we saw.

After this, we left for the garden in the Tuileries where Sabine had again prepared a picnic lunch for us.

This was our last group activity except for the dinner that night.
